Work and relationships

A few weeks ago I sent in a reply for advertisement for a training position. I waited and waited for a reply until when I had given up hope I received a reply by email saying they had felt my application was outstanding and one of the best they had ever received, They also said I was exceptionally qualified.

The end result of this the General Manager is flying to Adelaide in early May to have a chat with me. I am really looking forward to it.

My ex-wife kept reminding me that I am a gifted educator and a hard worker. It is sometimes easy to get a bit depressed and down with the pressures of work, children, HIV and being single. When were in Sydney a few weeks ago I went to visit her mother in the hospital. My ex-wife was there already and had been speaking the the RN looking after her. She was telling the RN that when I was working as an Enrolled Nurse in that hospital I was a Medical Emergency Team Resource person/trainer. At that time we believe I was the only EN in the state to have such a role. That meant I was training and assessing Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses. I was also attending high level meetings in the hospital. The training role didn’t worry me as I was also regularly conducting in-service training for all my wards nurses.

My daughters love to hear the stories that my ex-wife tells about my achievements.

The other news is I am going out on a date tomorrow. I met a lady online who is a little younger than I am. She and I have made an amazing connection. She is an Enrolled Nurse. That is in its own right attractive. The other great thing is she has an extremely open mind the HIV thing and is looking beyond that and towards me as a human.

I’m really excited!!!!

 Work and relationships

I am a 41 year old Aboriginal (Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay) man who has been living with HIV since I was infected at the age of 16 years old in 1988. I am originally from New South Wales and moved to Adelaide about 5 years ago. I am a university graduate and am going back to full-time study this year. I worked professionally as a nurse with my field expertise was in emergency, drug and alcohol, remote area and ICU. I have now transitioned into training and development. I am passionate about: education, quality healthcare, self determination, reducing stigma and discrimination and Indigenous rights. I am a biological father of 2 daughters who DO NOT have HIV. I was married to a HIV negative woman for 13 years and divorced in early 2011.
